Don’t get me wrong, if I put it all on the line and somebody comes and beats that, then you have to hold your hands up and applaud. The better man, or woman, won. I suppose that’s the satisfying thing about running. You can’t blame anyone else but yourself. If you got lost, it’s down to your poor navigational skills. If you got beat, it’s because you’re not fast enough. My results last year were pretty poor. Apart from running well at the Vetikal 2000 in Italy I didn’t really achieve anything. I was always looking to do well at the English Championships but that never materialized. The first race was a disaster ! I put the training in leading up to the big races. I was out twice a day, seven days a week, come rain or shine. I felt physically fit and in training I was flying I just always choked in races and never achieved the result I wanted. This can get quite disheartening and could be a factor in why I have chosen to take a break.
Looking to the future, I am looking to get back fit and racing again. I think the time is right to get back out there. Currently I am very un-fit. I have been playing competitive sport but endurance wise I am nowhere near the level I need to be in order to compete. I have picked out a few races at the back end of the season which I hope to target. The Vertical Gerania in Greece, Mamores VK in Scotland and the Vertical Serre in France. In the meantime, I will get back out training and see if I can rekindle the passion I once had for running.
